This is amazing. But I think Roger Bobo does a better job. Roger's musicality and his cleanness, particularly on the low notes to the high fluttery stuff, is just out of this world. Oystein is great, and does an fantastic job, one which I can only dream to do in my life time, but check out Roger's if you haven't already. Extremely Impressive! Bravo. BUT... his trills and other fast finger stuff is soo fast that it actually starts to detract from his musicality. Before you get mad listen again. His sonorous sound gets swallowed when he trills super fast. I didn't know any Tuba player could trill that fast, and it's impressive, but now I know they shouldn't.

My friend who plays Euphonium and I a tuba player printed out Oompa Loompa, Zelda, A-team, Family Guy, Imperial March and The Godfather Waltz and inserted transitions to make a well known medley. We received a 100 and my teacher who plays low brass loved it all. Cheers!

@MrBrad745 Sousaphone was made as a decent way to bring the sound of a tuba into a marching setting. They are different instruments, but almost identical. the most noticeable difference is the fact that sousaphones don't tend to be as dark or warm of a sound. This is the reason that they eventually made marching tubas/convertibles. But if played right, both can identical. They are extremely close instruments in almost every area, though

This is just awesome. I first heard it done by the "Five Tubas" years ago. For those of you commenting on the baritones and euphoniums and e-flat horns...they are all part of the tuba family, So when they say tuba, it includes these horns. dude, i played euphonium for 5 years and i am currently playing tuba - i know that tubas are much deeper. there's no way that those back ones are tubas. too small and too high (example - 1:03 and 2:08). pause it at 1:47 - u can definetly tell that those are euphoniums.

I performed this concerto in London, with Gregson conducting, so I know it well. He is playing an Eb tuba. It is hard to tell exactly which - it doesn't look like a Besson or Yamaha but could be Miraphone. His mouthpiece looks like a Bach 18 but cannot be certain. He would have a better sound if he lost that vibrato and used a Helleburg mouthpiece, like a Wick 3L or Schilke 66.

I have a B and H Imperial - I have been using on loan with the Waverley Bondi Beach Brass Band. I've been thinking of getting my own instrument. How is the sax dumb; it's a valuable contribution to the woodwind family. Personally I tend to find the saxophone to be too abrasive in sound near and particularly below the baritone, while the baritone and higher pitched sax sound great, even the soprano sax when played by people like Coltrane and not Kenny G. I prefer the bass clarinet or equivalent contrabass flutes. Although every instrument has it's use, who puts a comment like your's up

@jamocha101: Gideon was a judge of Israel MANY years ago. God chose him to lead Israel in a war against Midian. They had an army of only 300 guys against over 120,000. God told them to only bring a torch, a horn, (parodied as flashlights and tubas in the movie) and a jar (to hide the flame of the torch until they were ready), but no weapons. @943kline what i did to learn how to do multiphonics, is buzz in the air, with no instrument, or mouthpeice, then try to hum, so you get a weird sounding vibration, so your vibrating your lips while holding out a pitch, and eventually you can do this, and get good to where you can through your instrument, i play tuba, and its a lil easier to do on it, than other brass instruments

@943kline for a while, just try buzzing and humming at the same time, then when you have gotten really good at that, go ahead and add your instrument, keep in mind that this won't work too well with woodwinds. Also, you will find it really easy to hum 3rds and 5ths. Then it is just practice.

@943kline you have to first make a sound with your voice then start to blow air at the same time and a lot of practice. I saw Oystein live in quebec city and this guy is amazing a lot of skills are needed to reach just 1/10 of what he make as a "tuba beat box" His a great musician.

Lol, I learned how to sing while I was playing my instrument, someone poked me, and I screamed while I was playing. I ended up just screaming and playing at the same, and was able to slowly translate that into singing. Its not hard, you just need to take that first step.

Kline, sing from your throat, not with your mouth, just allow yourself to go on "auto pilot" with the actual buzzing of the lips and focus more on the throat singing, start on the same note you're playing on your tuba than work your way up to a 5th or an octive, or wherever you want to be on the scale :)

@943kline It's not that hard.. You at least if you play tuba or euphonium, of you're playing the trumpet or something it's harder to do it. But just try to play any tone you're comfortable with, (prefearaply a low one) then you sort of open up you throath and sing/talk/make whatever sound you like. And that should do it.. I've been abel to do it ever sins I was 12 years, and I'm not one of those insanly good players, so you should be abel to do it.

@MunkyRoCks777 Which is exactly why it works. Steel ball inside, really strong rare earth magnet outside, magnet pulls the steel ball. Think about from the inside out. The magnet thingie provides a flat surfact, the ball rolls the dent outward to the flat surface.

I went to get the school's sousaphone fixed in the middle of the school year, and they had taken some dents out. We got it back and tried to play it, but it wouldn't sound... You couldn't get any air through it. We took it back, and they had wedged one of the magnetic balls in the tuba and left it there..

People, this doesn't work magnets are only attracted by iron and iron alloys like steel. Tubas are made of brass which is an alloy of copper and zinc.

Damn!! that is so useful! But $350 for a magnet, 4 steel balls and some furniture polish (to prevent scratches) is a little steep for us one time users (hopefully) but sure is great for a shop. I took my Conn 16E in the other day for a spit valve job and they wanted to take the dents out (its worth $40) but I told them that it would be cheaper just to buy a new horn than all the work it would take...they agreed.

it only works if the material is pretty thin. Believe me it doesn´t work on every instrument or spot on a instrument. It sure leaves some marks of the repair but still it can be pretty amazing. But becarefull it looks simpel on the video but it takes some practice to do it nicely.
